Mr. Kaji — joined the faculty of Hillsborough Elementary School in December 2016 and taught 4th grade to finish out the 2016-2017 school year.

He will teach 4th grade again in 2017-2018

 

 

 

Meeting Mr. Kaji:

I graduated from Appalachian State University in 2012, and got started right away with elementary education. I have known I wanted to be an educator since I was inspired by an incredible teacher of my own in 5th grade. I am now in my sixth year of official education.

I love finding what my students are passionate about and using that as a means of getting them interested in learning material.  I firmly believe that if a child is interested, then they will work to be successful! Though I take my responsibilities as a teacher very seriously, I try to incorporate fun to connect with students and make them want to be involved in their class.

HOBBIES: Drawing, writing, singing, playing games of all kinds, nature walks, learning new things, space exploration

FAVORITE TV SHOW: Adventure Time

FAVORITE SCHOOL SUBJECT: Science (followed by Social Studies)

SIBLINGS: 1 (a younger sister)

FAVORITE FOOD: Mexican, Indian, pasta, Persian, soul food…ANYTHING!

MY HEROES: My mother and father, Bill Nye, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Thomas Jefferson, Batman, Iron Man

FAVORITE MUSIC: Mumford and Sons, Florence + The Machine, Yanni, Eminem, most 90’s rock, Beyonce, Les Friction, 80’s power ballads, jazz and swing from the 20s to the 50s

FAVORITE GAMES: Magic: the Gathering, Warcraft, Fallout, Overwatch

 

2017 Spring Fling a Big Success

The 2017 Spring Fling was a HUGE success!

We had more than 200 people attend the festival, which included food trucks, games and local vendors and artists.

We even had a special surprise visitor, Dr. Halkiotis, Chairman of the Orange County School Board, who gave the event RAVE reviews.  He was so impressed that parents and teachers would give their time on a weekend for a school event.

Mr. Oeschle, HES’s famed art teacher and published author, was on hand to sign copies of his book, “The Lost Cipher”. — click here for more about this book

Mr. Zatt was the sole faculty volunteer for the DUNK TANK and students lined up for the chance to take him down . . .  and down he went into the water, time and time again . . .  all afternoon!

We are certainly thankful to all the volunteers, including PTA members, teachers, parents and local high school students. In addition, many HES families donated items to make up gift baskets for the silent auction.

Kim Ward and Heather Bolduc, Co-chairs of the HES PTA Social Committee put hours and hours of work into organizing this event so all HES families could enjoy a day of fun, games, and community spirit .
