Weekly Wire

  • Hillsborough Elementary School PTA Weekly Wire –

  • February 6th

We are changing the schedule for the HES PTA Weekly Wire to be able to separate messages from the Sunday schoolwide e-mail. Beginning this week, look for the Weekly Wire on Tuesday or Wednesday

    Food Drive Starts Next Week!

It is time for our next Dolphin Service Project!  Hillsborough Elementary is having a food drive to support our local food bank. The OCIM Food Bank helps families in Orange County who don’t have enough food to eat. The food drive will run from Monday, Feb. 12th through Friday, Feb 16th. So show some love for your community by bringing in non-perishable food items to your classroom. Thanks to Ms. Creech for organizing this event for the school!

Family Yoga and Movie Night February 23rd

HES Dolphins and families please come out and enjoy HES Yoga and Movie Night. This FREE event will be Friday February 23. Yoga lead by Coach Walker will begin at 5:30 in the gym followed by  the movie. Premiering at movie night will be Despicable Me 3, which will start at 6:45 in the gym. Don’t worry about dinner Dang Good Dogs will be on site to handle dinner from 5:30-7:00 (purchase required, accepts cash and plastic).

Make sure you bring a mat or towel for yoga and bring your comfy chair, bean bag, or blanket to relax and enjoy the movie. Don’t forget about the free popcorn!

This event is sponsored by HES PTA and organized by our Social Committee.

    March Madness Coin Drive

The PTA is planning a coin drive during March Madness! We’ll have containers for ACC Schools, and students, parents and teachers can drop coins into their favorite team’s container during the tournament. All coins will be used as donations to the PTA. We need help in organizing the drive and counting change, so if you can help with this fun activity please email president@hesdolphinspta.com.

    Help Us Celebrate Teacher Birthdays

The HES PTA Hospitality Committee coordinates small gifts for the teachers to celebrate their birthdays. Please sign up for a month of gifts- you can bring the gifts to school all the same day, or on each birthday if you prefer. Please purchase a $5 gift (coffee gift cards, notebooks, lotion, and other small items are great) and submit your receipt to the PTA Treasurer using the reimbursement form in the PTA box in the office. If you have questions, contact Meghan Rosensweet at mmrosensweet@gmail.com. Sign up for a month here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090e4ba4ab28a3f58-hespta

    Additional Fundraising Opportunities

At the last General meeting, we discussed the need for some additional small fundraisers to help us support projects for the Specials Teachers and leave funds for next year’s PTA leadership to start the year. The Read-A-Thon raised enough money to cover all of our planned expenses for PTA events and activities such as a $200 supply stipend for each teacher, field trip support, social events like Movie Night and the Spring Fling, and cultural art events for each class. However, we don’t have enough extra funds on hand for other projects. Therefore, we will be reaching out to local businesses to sponsor HES Nights and explore other small fundraising options. We’d love suggestions and help in planning these events, and if you have connections with a local business who could help, please let us know by emailing president@hesdolphinspta.com.

Community Events to be Added to Weekly Wire

At the last PTA General Meeting, we decided to create a monthly email highlighting community events to share with the HES Community. Events must include a contact person with a direct HES connection (parent, grandparent, teacher, etc.), be appropriate for elementary-age children and be tied to a specific event rather than a general group. We’ll send the March message on March 6th, so if you are part of a group that would like to share an event with other families, please send the following information to president@hesdolphinspta.com by March 5th:

    • Name of the event
    • Date, time and details
    • Contact information for follow-up

    Morning Movement Classes with Coach

Beginning the week of January 22, Coach will be offering two morning movement classes for fourth and fifth grade students.  Mondays and Wednesdays he will offer a fitness class, and Tuesdays and Thursdays he’ll offer a yoga class.  Class will be from 7:25-7:45 a.m. and parents will need to walk their child to the gym for them to attend the class as there will be no one on duty to monitor them. Please note that students will be required to participate in all the activities while attending the class. They should wear their gym shoes on the fitness class days.

    HES Yearbook Sales

Early ordering ended on December 11, meaning that all yearbooks ordered between now and March 1 will cost $20.00  To order, go to www.strawbridge.net and use the online code 102066. The HES PTA provides yearbooks for each 5th grader, so 5th grade students do not need to order a yearbook.
