Benefits Our Students

  • helps children re-engage academically after school break
  • encourages a lifelong love of reading and learning
  • builds school community via motivational assemblies, and exciting, literary-inspired events

Benefits Our School Community

  • a long-standing HES tradition for raising funds to support essential school operations and special programs for students
  • the goal is to earn enough to cover all programs in the PTA budget so additional fundraising during the school year is not needed

GoalTable

READ-A-THON Fundraising Goal 2019-2020

If we reach our fundraising goal of $25,000, we can cover all planned PTA activities this year.

Any additional money we raise will be used to fund special projects for our school.

PLEASE HELP US EXCEED OUR GOALS!

If we exceed this goal, we plan to  IMPROVE THE K-1 PLAYGROUND this year.  We will rework the hillside bench (down near the track) to eliminate erosion and make it a  better gathering space for students. We will be focusing on providing shade as well as improving the blacktop area.

READ-A-THON Kick-Off Assembly —  Friday August 9th, 2019 @ 2 p.m.

an HES tradition that students look forward to every year!

The main highlight is an action-packed skit starring members of the HES faculty!

There’s always a surprise . . .  and it’s always C R A Z Y!

STUDENTS LOVE IT!  We’ve had many former HES students — now in middle school, high school, and beyond — come back just to see the skit!

PARENTS and FAMILIES are encouraged to attend the READ-A-THON Assembly to join in on the fun.

HOW READ-A-THON WORKS

MAKING PLEDGES & DONATIONS:

instead of filling out pledges on the envelope, you can use the online system to accept pledges AND donations, and to share fundraising info with friends & family.

A.    Go to: 99pledges.com/fund/HES2019RAT.

B.    At the bottom of the page under group standings, click ADD PARTICIPANT.

C.    Fill in your student’s name (first name + last initial ok).

D.    *optional*: enter your email if you’d like the site to notify you when a pledge or donation is made to your student’s page.

E.    Select your child’s teacher under the group heading.

F.    Click ADD.

G.    Now you can share via email and social media if you choose. Other donations (cash and check) will still be accepted in the take-home envelopes

RECORDING MINUTES:

Use the tally shee on the READ-A-THON envelope that was was sent home with your child. Or print another copy HERE

Record the number of minutes your child read outside of school each day. PTA volunteers will tabulate the amount owed for each student.

THEME WEEK — AUGUST 12th – 16th

get into the spirit of teamwork, POKEMON style

Mon 12: TEAM SPIRIT DAY

Wear a shirt or jersey representing your favorite sports team, or wear your team’s colors.

Tue 13: GOTTA READ ‘EM ALL  BOOK EXCHANGE

Lucian, a Pokemon trainer who’s often found at the Canalave Library, is always saying “BOOKS ARE WONDERFUL THINGS”. We couldn’t agree more and want everyone to team up with something new to read. Bring in your donations and each student will go home with a new book.

Wed 14: POKEMON TRAINER DAY

Bring in one small stuffed animal to be your Pokemon companion for the day. Together, you’ll make a great team for learning.

Thurs 15: PAJAMA DAY

Because he woke up late, Ash was still wearing his pajamas when he teamed up with his first Pokemon. To commemorate this event, wear your pajamas to school – BUT MAKE SURE YOU’RE ON TIME!

Fri 16: SCHOOL SPIRIT DAY

Wear your HES spirit wear with the school logo, or anything that’s red or blue, to show you’re a part of the DOLPHIN TEAM.
